Synopsis:
Die attraktive Nachtclubtänzerin Roslyn (Marilyn Monroe) erhofft sich mehr von ihrem Leben. Auf der Suche nach einem tieferen Sinn lässt sie sich schließlich in Reno von ihrem Mann scheiden und wagt einen Neubeginn. Dort lernt sie den eigenbrötlerischen Cowboy Gay (Clark Gable) und dessen Kumpane, den Mechaniker Guido (Eli Wallach) und den Rodeoreiter Perce (Montgomery Clift) kennen. Die Männer sind begeistert von der hübschen Blondine und auch Roslyn genießt es, von ihnen umworben zu werden. Was sie jedoch nicht weiß: Gay und seine Freunde gehen einem scheußlichen Geschäft nach. Sie fangen und verkaufen Wildpferde, die dann auf einem Schlachthof zu Hundefutter verarbeitet werden. Als Roslyn davon erfährt, ist sie schockiert und stellt die Männer vor eine Entscheidung.
